Your first appointment is a consultation where we assess your tattoo's size, colours, age, and your skin type to give you realistic expectations on how many sessions you will need. We photograph the tattoo so we can track progress. During treatment, the laser delivers rapid pulses of light that shatter ink particles into fragments small enough for your body to eliminate. It does hurt, and most people compare it to hot elastic bands snapping against the skin. Sessions last 10 to 30 minutes depending on tattoo size. Straight afterwards, you will see a whitish frosting effect on the skin, followed by redness and swelling similar to sunburn. Blistering can happen and is normal. Your body clears the shattered ink over the following 6 to 8 weeks, which is why sessions are spaced that far apart. Most tattoos need 6 to 12 sessions for significant fading or removal. Darker inks respond most quickly.
With proper technique and aftercare, scarring is rare. Most people end up with clear or noticeably improved skin.
Black and darker inks fade most predictably. Professional tattoos generally respond more consistently than amateur ones.
